Footwear Quality Control Orders by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)
In order to prevent the import of cheap leather footwear in the country, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has issued a new notification and has redefined the quality norms for leather shoes. DPIIT notification says leather shoes including anti-riots shoe products would have to conform to the specified standards and bear the standard mark under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The notification says, ” The items cannot be produced, sold/traded, imported and stocked unless they bear BIS mark. The BIS shall be the certifying and enforcement authority for the goods.” The order is applicable from October 27, 2020.
